IBM Opens £19m Green Mainframe Factory
The Poughkeepsie, N.Y., facility, which opened on 13 April, also will feature an energy-efficient design. The 56,000-square-foot building, housed within a larger building on IBM's 400-acre campus, is a testament to the company's commitment to the Mid-Valley. Microsoft Builds Energy-Saving Data Centre
He explained that traditionally a product group self-manages their own lab in an office building but the new facility is a centrally managed and more energy-efficient alternative. Northumbria University Gets Wyse to Sustainable IT
A major new deployment of energy efficient thin client computers complements campus green-building design features as part of an environmental drive. Intel Recognised For Green Power Usage
Commenting on the company's placement at top of the renewable energy usage chart last year, Intel president and chief executive Paul Ottellini said that he hoped that Intel's investment in wind renewable energy would encourage others to follow suit. IBM Looks to Emerging Markets To Expand Green Strategy
IBM recently inked three large-scale deals to help companies overseas design and build energy-efficient data centres, the latest examples of the hunger for green IT in emerging markets. [...] IBM announced on 5 November a $5.4 million (£3.3 million) deal with Cosan, a sugar-energy group based in Sao Paulo, to redesign its IT infrastructure, and another deal with Slovak Telekom to build a new data centre in Bratislava, Slovakia. In addition, IBM signed an IT services deal with the Haryana-based Indian subsidiary of confectionary company Perfetti Van Melle to design, build and manage a green data centre. Intel Awarded Green Building Cert For Design Facility
According to Intel, IDC 9's sustainable design has resulted in a 17 percent reduction in total building energy compared with normal buidlings based on the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 90.1-2007 standard. [...] The design centre, which is set to open in June, has been awarded a Leadership In Energy And Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification and is the first building in Israel to do so. [...] Given the high summer temperatures experienced in the Haifa, Intel faced challenges in cooling the facility. Measures to insulate the building include a rooftop garden which the company said helps to prevent excess heat from being retained. ARM Launches New Chip For Smartphones, Netbooks
ARM has unveiled its smallest, most energy-efficient processor design with its Cortex-A5 chip, that targets smaller, Internet-connected devices such as smartphones, netbooks and embedded systems. [...] ARM unveiled the new design at its ARM TechCon3 event in Santa Clara, California. The new Cortex-A5 MPCore processor will be cheaper, faster and more energy efficient than its predecessors. [...] The Cortex-A5 will include ARM's TrustZone security technology and a Neon multimedia processing engine, which was first introduced with the Cortex-A8 processor design.
