Costs + Business + Units
BT’s Problems Come From Global Services Unit
[...] To get GS working, it is being restructured, streamlined and moved to a new operational model with its costs reduced. The three new business units are. [...] Cost, cash and risk are the watchwords by which BT GS will be run - words which beg the question, is the unit removing itself from large outsource bids in 2009 Reading between the lines, the unit is still in play for large deals. BT has invested in GS since 2005, and apparently achieved better customer service on its contracts. [...] Global Services Enterprises with revenues of £2.8bn, which comprises altnet business for corporates and the SME market, as well as stand-alone professional services. [...]
Google’s Nexus One Is Not An iPhone
[...] True, true. Motorola's Droid is passable, shipping nearly one million units since the November launch, which is not bad for the holiday season. [...]
IBM/Sun: It’s All About The Storage?
[...] One aspect that is worthy of consideration is the mainframe storage play. Believe it or not, there is still a lot of big iron out there that costs companies a small fortune to maintain. Indeed, it has been argued that keeping an old gas guzzler has less impact on the environment than buying a new hybrid car. [...]

[...] It also matters to anyone wanting to make an impact, or make sales on the web. The shift from Google to Facebook may not keep up, but even a slight move towards social networking should produce a big reaction from marketers and anyone else using the web for their business. [...] It's way too early to pronounce that Social has beaten Search. For one thing, despite a slow start, Google's mobile play, based around Nexus One and other Android phones, is still in its early phases. Nexus One only sold 135,000 units in four weeks, a result which has exposed the fact that the phone is not ousting the iPhone any time soon - but doesn't preclude a comeback. [...]
